We took an interesting walk to the American Club so Kent could play in the kiddie pool and we could each lunch.
The hike took us through what Alan calls the "sketchy" part of downtown. It's not dangerous by worldwide standards, but the street is full of bars and night life.
Alan and Yuka have recently joined the American Club, both for its wonderful facilities and also to expose Kent to more American culture. We went to the kiddie pool which is on the top deck, but the wind was so strong we didn't stay long.
We ate lunch in their casual restaurant which has a great play area for children, and happened to meet a couple who are friends with Alan and Yuka and have a son pretty close to Kent's age. After lunch I got a tour of the whole building. They have an olympic size pool, a full basketball court, a huge workout room, squash courts, a bowling alley, a library, and even music practice rooms!
We took a walk back through some traditional neighborhoods and saw some residential parts of the city with both old and new houses and apartments.

These are the steps I take down to get to Alan's apartment.
The entrance to their building is on the right across that street. |
